Kids Alley Afterschool Program
Since December of 2016, whenever I am at home in New Jersey, I volunteer at an afterschool program for kids ages kindergarten through fifth grade. Kids Alley is a program that serves underprivileged children primarily from Camden and Woodlynne, New Jersey.
Many of the kids come from Spanish speaking households which allows me to utilize my Spanish skills when communicating with the kids and sometimes their parents. I have been able to connect with these kids who have limited English skills because they are grateful that they can get help with their homework in a language they can better understand.
Seeing the progress the children make from when I see them in December to when I get home in May is the best part of working at Kids Alley. I have seen many of the kids improve their English speaking and reading skills and it is an honor to be a part of their growth.
Clemson Club Field Hockey
Since freshman year, I have played on Clemson's Club Field Hockey team. This team is so important to me because it has allowed me to continue to play my favorite sport in college with a fun, low-stress environment. Sports were such an important part of my life as a kid that I was not ready to give them up when I got to Clemson. Playing with the club field hockey team has allowed me to maintain my competitive spirit and my love for field hockey.
During my sophomore year, I served as the club's treasurer. This role allowed me a chance to handle the team's budget as well as make a budget proposal to Clemson's undergraduate student government. During my time as treasurer, the club hosted two fundraising events that helped us host a home tournament and attend a tournament in Gainesville, Florida, hosted by the University of Florida.
Extracurricular Activities
This page is dedicated to the activities I participate in outside of the classroom.
